Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about working with subtitles in AllSubConverter.

What is AllSubConverter?

AllSubConverter is a privacy-first subtitle processing workspace. It bundles 117+ tools for converting, editing, syncing, translating, cleaning, and exporting subtitle files. Standard tools run directly in your browser; AI tools use the provider and API key you choose.

Do my subtitles get uploaded to a server?

Standard tools process files locally in your browser, so those subtitle files do not leave your device. AI tools send the cue text needed for the request directly from your browser to the chosen provider; they do not upload the original file.

Which subtitle formats are supported?

AllSubConverter supports 11 core subtitle formats - SRT, VTT, ASS, SSA, LRC, SBV, TTML, SCC, STL, SMI and TXT - plus YouTube JSON3 input. Available conversion routes depend on the source and target format.

How do the AI tools work?

The AI Translator, Rewriter, and Annotator run from your browser. You bring your own API key, and supported requests go directly to OpenAI or an approved OpenAI-compatible provider. Provider API usage may be billed to your account.

Is AllSubConverter free to use?

Yes. Every converter and editing tool is free with no daily caps and no sign-up required. Each file can be up to 50 MB, and batches can contain up to 200 files or 1 GB total. AI tools only need your own API key.

Can I process multiple files at once?

Yes. The workspace handles multiple selected files, and the batch converter can process up to 200 files or 1 GB in a single run.
